Friday 16th August was a nice clear night at the Seething Observatory and we were testing out the 16″ telescope after several weeks of maintenance and cleaning.

We managed to see Saturn as it came above the trees at around 10 pm.

The image was taken with a mobile phone against the 32 mm eyepiece, so is not a fantastic resolution. But you can see one of our favourite planets again. The rings are pretty flat now, owing to the angle of the planet in its orbit around the sun, so you do not see any gap between the rings and planet.

As the nights get darker earlier and for longer, we are looking forward to our 2024/5 season of observing and Public Talks.
