Colleagues, the Solar Eclipse/Perseid meteor event for members and their families.

On Wednesday 12th August we have a partial solar eclipse from around 18:00 until 20:00 with maxima around 19:00. Please bear in mind that this is the setting sun, but we are confident that most of this event will be observable provided the forecast remains cloud free.

Later in the evening we have a chance to see the Perseid meteor shower which also peaks on Wednesday.

Members and families are welcome to attend. We are not providing food so please bring your own food and snacks. We have facilities for making teas, coffees, squash and a microwave to heat stuff. Also bring warm clothing if staying for the meteor shower, and garden recliners are a good idea to avoid neck ache when looking for meteors.

Those of us with solar scopes will have them out for the eclipse, but the meteor shower is simply looking at the sky and watching for them with the eye.

Just in case this event is well attended by members there is overflow car parking further down the site, please continue through the car park and along the track past the metal shed on the left and the Genesis dome on the right to reach the extra parking area.
