SUMMARY:Mark Thompson: Jupiter\, King of the Planets [Public]
DESCRIPTION:There will be two talks (around 50 minutes each) starting at 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm \nJupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System\, with a storm that has raged for centuries and a magnetic field so powerful it would be visible to the naked eye if we could see it. In this talk\, Mark will unpack what makes Jupiter such a dominant force\, from its swirling cloud belts and iconic Great Red Spot to its remarkable family of moons\, some of which may harbor conditions capable of supporting life. Whether you’re new to the night sky or a seasoned observer\, Jupiter never fails to astonish. \nPlease note: \nTickets are non-refundable.    \nOur talks are generally family-friendly\, any exceptions will be clearly stated in the event description above.  The observatory will be open for you to look around from 7.00 pm on the night of the talk.  You will have a chance to view the night sky if the weather cooperates\, before or after the talk.   \nWe serve refreshments (tea\, coffee\, hot chocolate\, squash) on site for very reasonable costs.   \nWe have limited parking at the observatory itself\, so provided you don’t have mobility issues\, you may be required to park at our overflow parking at Seething Aerodrome\, about 200 m further down Toad Lane. \nAbout your ticket payment \nWe use a company called Zeffy to sell tickets because it charges us nothing — so 100% of your ticket price goes straight to Norwich Astronomical Society. \nAt checkout\, Zeffy will ask you to add an optional tip to support their platform. This is entirely optional. To skip it\, just change the tip amount to £0.00 before completing your payment. \n[Image courtesy of ESA]
